Every result exposes the assumption that can change it.
YardageWise calculators are deterministic web tools. They do not replace pattern instructions, a longarmer's requirements or inspection of the actual fabric.
Backing formula.
Required width and length equal the finished top plus twice the selected overage. Usable WOF equals labelled width minus selvage loss. We compare lengthwise and crosswise panels, subtract finished seam loss and round purchase length upward to a quarter yard.
Binding formula.
Straight-grain binding uses quilt perimeter plus a finishing margin. Strip count is rounded up after dividing by usable WOF; yardage is strips × cut width ÷ 36, then rounded upward. Curved-edge bias binding is outside this calculator's scope.
Border formula.
The border tool assumes side borders attach first, then top and bottom span the expanded width. Cut width includes two seam allowances.
Reference checks.
Defaults are intentionally visible. The binding workflow is consistent with public guidance from WeAllSew and Missouri Star Quilt Co.; backing overage and panel assumptions should still be adjusted to the pattern or longarmer.
